NEOHEMAS session 2-30-14

David, Jason and I today…

2 rounds shadow boxing
1 rounds focus gloves
3 rounds boxing
1 round savate
1 round partnered footwork
1 round freestyle footwork

We worked a short while on the four quadrant punching drill we did
few weeks back and got a short video to show just what I’m talking

We then completely switched gears and brought out the training spears
for a quick recap of our skills before doing a little bouting. Since
we were indoors with spears of roughly 6′ length our focus was on
Fiore’s plays. Had some real excellent success using the Mezza Porta
di Ferro (Middle Iron Door), so after the bouting we went over this

We ended the session with some work using the Regimental Highland
broadsword system as put forth by the Cateran society. Basic guards,
shifting the leg, compass attacks. Looking forward tot he nicer
weather so we can get outside with this.

NEOHEMAS session 3-23-14

Just Chris and I today…my entire household got caught by the flu last weekend. I am still not 100% but wanted to at least move in a martial manner today.

2 rounds shadow boxing
3 rounds focus gloves
1 round boxing
2 rounds savate.
That’s about all I had in me, pretty short session but ready to nail it next time around. Felt good to move. I still owe a few people video of the 4 quadrant punching from a few weeks back. Will get to that this week now that I am human again.

NEOHEMAS session 3-9-14

Chris and I today….

2 rounds shadow boxing
2 rounds focus pads
This training session was devoted almost entirely to fighting from and early pugilistic attitude…Mendoza. Using the extended guard to close and open lines, setting up counters, just generally making the other guy fall into your game plan with slight guard variations.
We worked on drawing the hook by taking control of the centerline, countering with a raised elbow with an inverted fist strike on the inside…we also lowered the guard a bit to invited a straight punch which we caught using Mendoza’s guard following with a chopper then a straight rear. We payed extra attention to the concept of throwing head and body back for defense.
We ended our session with some work on four quadrant punching.

NEOHEMAS 3-2-14 Training Session

I was supposed to attend Nord Schlag in Edmonton Alberta this past weekend but unfortunately once I got to Chicago I discovered that they canceled my flight to Edmonton and I could not get there until Sunday afternoon…when the even was just about over. After a two hour wait in line with hundreds of angry passengers, I was able to squeeze in on a stand by for a flight back home.

I slept much of Saturday away after being up all night. With the impending bad weather here in Ohio, I decided to just not tell my guys here that I would be home for our regular session.
Luckily Chris forgot I was not going to be here and came out anyway…good thing because I really wanted to do some training after a day of total rest.
2 rounds shadow boxing
3 rounds focus gloves
2 rounds boxing
We then did some work on attitude and closing lines while leaving some open. We then went over the half-round blow from RAF fisticuffs…and interesting two punch combination that is better seen than imagined. I will try to get a video clip of that soon.
We ended our session shillelagh in hand…we went over the entire Foot Pad and Cane style as well as Percy Longhursts advice for fighting with a blackthorn. Footpad and the Cane is rather sparse, I like it a great deal but adding the Longhurst material makes it a little more complete.
