Session 10-23-11

Chris, Matt and I on Sunday.

Still getting over my bout with the super flu. Very weak so not the best training session imo.

2 rounds shadow boxing
2 rounds boxing
2 rounds kickfighting(Sparring using only feet)
We then went through some of the difference between different styles of knife work, mostly FMA and Spanish navaja styles.

We ended the session with some German longsword.

Tuesday, Chris came out and we had a good session, still feeling weak but semi-happy about how I did.
2 rounds shadow boxing
5 rounds boxing
1 round savate
1 round focus mitts

Some nice boxing by Chris…such improvement over the years. I find it hard to believe this is the same guy who was so easy to box up when he started. Now only absolute treachery allows me to land a solid shot on him. I have been adding more of the Russian fisticuff movements to my boxing lately so that helps at times.

Hopefully by next Sunday I will have put all this flu crap behind me and feel human again.

Session 10-16-11

Had a new guy out this week. His name was Matt and strangely he is the fourth Matt we have had out to train with us. A popular name for sure but we have had a disproportionate number of them.

So today, Matt, Matt and I…

I am getting over a week long bout of the flu so was a little weak and wheezy, luckily Matt1 was there to help show some basics to the new guy. We went over basic attitude and footwork, progressing to straight lead and straight rear punches vertical fist. NewMatt is a pretty big guy so when he had his rhythm and timing down for the punches they were solid. In a few weeks he should be hitting like a truck.

After about an hour working on the basics we had him join into our regular striking routine.

2 rounds footwork
1 round heavy bag
2 rounds feed and follow drill, just straight lead while moving around in footwork
Matt1 and I then sparred 1 round boxing and 1 round savate showing how hard we usually go and what equipment we use.

We then demoed some weapon work for him so he could see some of the things we work on besides boxing (which was his main interest)

We ended the session with just a few minutes of matwork.

Session 10-1-11

Chris Matt and I today,

2 rounds shadow boxing
2 rounds boxing
1 round freestyle footwork
2 rounds savate
1 round heavy bag

We then worked on some of our Russian fisticuff drills again this week. A one for one drill called anvils, some one handed defensive sparring and a review of the half round and round blows.

We then worked a fantastic defense against a duck under go behind in sambo…you can see that here:

Our session was cut short when we had to wrangle one of the neighbors escaped cows. Unfortunately we were unable to use any of our martial skills again the bovine interloper. I did chase it with a shovel and a garbage can lid though. Luckily no video was taken.
