the CS shovel is pretty sharp still. From the factory it was very sharp but it has seen alot of use since I got it so it is getting dull. Usually for training we duct tape the edge. The old Soviet shovel shows signs that only one side had a decent edge on it but that is long worn down to a dull bevel.

Thanks. I'm assuming these are not sharpened, but are the edges beveled or anything?

Hi Jason,

I use the fixed handle shovels. I have one CS Special forces and one 1939 issue Soviet model I play with. I am not a real big fan of the folders but someone did bring out a folding, telescoping model made by Glock that was really nice.

Ken, is that a folder or do you use a fixed handle for the shovel?

Thanks!
I'm sure I've seen it in a wrestling context somewhere, but can't remember what it would be known as there.

In Russian that throw is called a podhvat...Japanese call it an Uchi-mata or at least some form of Uchi-mata. The Russians tend to name classes or types of throws rather than individual ones.

You starting out as a complete novice is not a problem at all. The basic movements of any system or weapon are the most important one...for us to go over them again is a good thing.

you can write me at:
kenpfrenger@gmail.com
easier to get in touch with me than here on the site.

let me know what your specific interests are and we can go about figuring out a good time to meet and what to do.

Eventually starting my own group would be fantastic. I may accept your offer about coming out every so often. Before I do, I have to let you know that I am a complete novice. I don't have any training or background in any martial arts. Not even wrestling. If this would not hamper your training, I would love to come out and learn something. But, I wouldn't want to be too much of a burden or intefere with your training.
